Learn to play the guitar! Beginning 1 is designed for absolute beginners. You'll learn how to hold your guitar and pick, how to tune your guitar, basic chords and strumming patterns, and how to play some great songs. Already strumming a few chords? Try Guitar: Beginning 2.

Whether you've just completed the Beginning Guitar I class or are just brushing up on your basic guitar knowledge, this class will take you to the next level. You'll build on your chord and song repertoire and explore strumming and fingerpicking techniques.

In this course you will begin picking patterns on acoustic guitar in 3/4 and 4/4. You’ll play folk, blues and popular music; be ready for a little singing. You should be able to play open form chords (G, Em, C, Am, B7, D, D7, Dm, E, A, A7) including F (4-string form is fine). Specifically, we will start with arpeggios and begin Travis picking (like in “The Boxer”). Material will be presented for those who read music and for those who do not.

This course will build on picking patterns in ¾ and 4/4 time that were learned in Fingerpicking Guitar 1. We will learn more elaborate patterns, and also learn to use bass runs. This class is based on folk and popular music played on the acoustic guitar. Just as in the first class be ready for a little singing. You should be able to play open form chords (G, Em, C, Am, B7, D, D7, Dm, E, A, A7) and some barre chords like F and Bm. Material will be presented for those who read music and for those who do not.
